While I'm not fasting due to the energetic demands of my personal commitments, I wholly and enthusiastically support CJF, and will be in Copenhagen helping field media requests, supporting the long-term fasters, and performing my solo show "The Boycott" at Klimaforum09.

I was recently asked to write an "I Believe" essay for the green Sunday supplement in my town's newspaper. It's long, so you can read it by linking this link. But I'll include here my response to the question the editors asked, which was what I hoped people would take away from reading the essay:

There seems to be a prevalent cultural gap between awareness of the issues we’re facing and the ability or willingness to act on them. I think that gap is a product of overwhelm, inertia, and despair, as well as peoples’ fear that whatever small actions they might take as an individual wouldn’t be enough to make a difference. I would hope that after reading this essay, people who’d been feeling that way would have a moment where they could take in the full truth of our situation, accept that reality on a core level, and then feel bolstered and brave enough to take a leap of faith and say, “Ok. That’s it. I’m in.“

Hopefully, people will respond to CJF in the same way. They'll be drawn in by the force of everyone's passion and commitment, and think, "Well, if those people can starve themselves, I can at least do something!"
