  • Hey Paul and y’all.

You’re doing an amazing, courageous thing.

I am truly inspired by the stand you guys are taking for our planet and its peoples!

  • Hello fasters,

I just want to express my immense gratitude and admiration for your actions. Although some may see this action as ‘extreme’ - it is entirely in line with the immense threat that the climate crisis poses to all of humanity.

The real extremism is those who defend business as usual, even though all evidence shows that it will cause more suffering than we have ever seen.

I will be visiting you on Monday 16/11 in Canberra as a representative of my climate action group, Yarra Climate Action Now (YCAN) to show our solidarity and support, and will be fasting for the day.

  • Dear Anne, Even small acts like skipping dinners in solidarity with the CJF fasters - who have chosen to suffer to save us - is great thing.

That is comforting to them and to all others. I am sure at some stage people are going to view their suffering akin to the suffering of Jesus on the cross for the benefit of mankind. That is the calibre of their selfless sacrifice. That is how holy the actions of these great climate change and social injustice are.

Allowing climate change to proceed unabated means demise of all of the creatures and the people on the earth while the planet rots. Let me give you an idea how fast things are deteriorating and why Paul Connor and Anna Kennan are right in deeming this an emergency.

9 Nov 2009 DB Climate Advisors GHG counter reads- 3,647,025,299,299 tons, up from 3,645,596,596,596 as of 3 Sep 2009 #ghg http://Cli.gs/ghg

I would not agree with you that merely posting your views and stating that you are skipping a meal is not much. Every little step that helps bring a bigger change eventually is great idea.

Please do take the initiative and gather a few people along to go over in the coming week to go visit Paul, Michel and others. I was sad to see them sitting alone without supporters surrounding them. Advancement of hospitality from the people up on the hill is only a matter of time. The fasters are counting on people like you and their friends everywhere to keep their morale up and keep their will strong. So we must not do or say anything that would weaken the resolve of the fasters. That is the most important nuance in such movements. We have to keep advancing the resolve.

The clarity of the fasters needs to be reciprocated in a small way by advancing funds to support this action. Even if these warriors do not ask for that we need to offer them financial support. That is the least we can do for them as they march forward in a crusade to save our children and grandchildren which they may never even have themselves. There are many aspects of the movement that require funds so please do not let the advancement of this movement be slowed down or hampered in any way due to shortage of funds. Reasons why politicians think that they do not to address climate change are complex but in one word they are “greed+stupidity” driven. We sure need to put down everything we are distracted from and focus on this emergency. But that requires a lot of awareness and cognizance and at this stage the masses do not have that. That is what a step like long term fasting always achieves. History proves that truism. We must be ready to do everything and anything to solve this problem.

Oblique or ulterior interests do not make for much clarity of moral purpose. So that makes it a war of inducing morality in the humanity generally. The cognitive dissonance is wide ranging and most of us are gullible to that in some way or other. We need to awaken ourselves and bring a lot more altruism brotherhood and conscience (ABC). Let this action of fasters help us work on that direction. We need to further the peoples’ basic humanity a lot. So far we have been able to continue without regarding the principles of ABC much for the past 2000 years or so. But now it has become impossible to go on with the business as usual. We need to go a step further than merely hoping that the actions of the fasters challenge people, we have to insure a clear cut success. There would be no need for cognitive dissonance to prevails when we spread the message of ABC. If no wrongs are done the need for dissonance dissipation does not arise. That is what has to happen and we better make sure that we help the faster achieve that. If we can’t do that then we would be failing them. We do have the purpose all we need is the momentum for a lasting and a real change.

Good to see you caring so much.

  • guys,

thanks a lot for what you are doing, it is precious!

it takes a lot to wake this planet up to itself -and its inhabitants- and you are being very brave.

thanks god there are people so committed to this “impossible” task.

    in love we are one,

  • Hey Anna and all of the others participating in his demanding and powerful action,

You are all doing something incredibly courageous for our planet and if she could thank you I am sure that she would. You are inspiring me to follow through with my principles about protecting this miracle that we live on.

I think you will inspire others and help people realise that what we are dealing with is a matter of life and death, more important than capital economics or some fake war on terror.

But please be very careful. You all are as precious as our planet.

    Love Kim

  • Dear Paul, Michael, and all the fasters including Anna K.

I am skipping dinner in solidarity with you and with people who suffer due to climate change.

It’s not much but it helps me be in that space.

Hopefully over the coming month Canberrans will come and visit, and you will feel some kind of hospitality from this city, even though you may not receive it from the people up on the hill.

Your clarity of purpose is something that we need, and politicians also need this in addressing climate change.

To put down everything we are distracted by. And not to do anything else until we solve this problem.

Unfortunately vested interests does not make for much clarity of moral purpose. They make for cognitive dissonance- a tension between peoples’ basic humanity, their will for life on earth to continue into the future and their career paths. And guess which one wins again and again?

I hope your actions challenge people, so that the cognitive dissonance that prevails in many conflicted people breaks free into the world, is energised and clarified by public debate, by the possibilities of collaborative action, to gather purpose and momentum for real change.

    much love, Anne

  • Dear brother in Climate Change
    (Viral M Parekh of Kolkata)
Great to see you becoming a part of this HUGE thing and the only thing that has a chance of working with the stubbornness and greed that we are up against. Please do find the time to read the whole site and why is it so vital that we build a great momentum for this movement that has been started with these motivated kids.
I too was born in India and migrated to Canada to further my medical studies
I am Snatani Hindu by religion but now only my mother is able to practice that. In light of this fast we now hold daily vigils at a nearby Sikh temple for the success and welfare of our fighters in the war against injustice. Fasting certainly is very integral part of Hindu and Muslim religions. But this fasting is in protest and to displease and embarrass people not to please which is what the purpose of religious fasting usually is.
Gandhiji was able to go on for 31, 50 and 60 days etc. Each number holds its own value which I am not very much sure of.  Again the purpose of this fight is not to die peacefully but to cause unrest and disgust in the minds of those who have manipulated things to get into positions of power and cannot resile from that situation. Besides wish the fighters of climate injustice well we also need to support them in this great action. One part of that support is financial support to meet the expenses for advertisement, travel, medical attention legal bills etc. So please engage as many people in India who would be able to financially support them. To get the up to date information please ask people to join twitter and follow @CJFtweets and the more prolific tweets by me as @cuddlendance. When conducting searches you need not type the @ and then you can start to follow and RT the messages to your followers. Please also ask them to follow both of us. That would help build the movement faster.

  • Hi Paul,

I actually came to about this through Indraneel Banerjee, who fasted along with you at Canberra for two days.
    Great job.
Well, I am yet to read the whole site and why is it so… Purpose of this mail is just to inform some facts about the fasting.

I am an Indian and Jain by religion. Fasting is very integral part of the religion. We are very much regular to this process. We are allowed to drink only boiled water. Fasting for 2, 3, 7, 8 days are very very common among us. But there are few who goes on for 15, 21 and 31, 50 and 60 days too. Each number holds its own value which I am not very much sure of.

Just last month an old lady declared that I would be doing “Santhara” which means no food no water till death. It is considered to be a great honor to welcome death like this. Her fast lasted for 16 days and died peacefully. We call it the meeting of her soul with the God.

I’ll go through the site and will get back to you once again.

Wish you all the best for all your acts.

  • The extent of injustice has now become extreme as the rich has exploited the poor masses through use of fossil fuel economy and fed their greed to the extent that it would not be wrong to say that when SUVs and hummers are driven on the roads in USA Canada etc. they are crushing a child every ten feet they drive. The resistance to mitigation of climate change is being offered by the filthy rich because they see it as a threat to their ability to continue to exploit the poor while placing their health and lives at risk on an hourly basis. We have to overhaul the entire system. Gandhi fought for independence of poor Indians by using this tool but he did not predict that the corporate greed would keep the masses in poverty and denied of freedom. Modern capitalistic ponzi economy is founded on the exploitation of the poor to max and it can no longer go on because the climate chaos would kill or hurt everyone now. Time to bring true independence, true freedom and a meaningful democracy has now come. We got to make this a global movement. There is a certain success inbuilt into this movement because it has now become mandatory to do so. Allowing the ponzi capitalistic system to go on is no longer an option. Nature took care of that for us. Let us go grab success people. Let us unite and help rid the billionaires of their billions and seek an equitable distribution of wealth where we can all enjoy happiness and health and in the end cuddlendance.

Hope you guys are going well, here in Sydney we will be thinking of you, and hope to get down for a visit at some point.

We are also starting a safe climate silent vigil on Sydney Town Hall steps from tonight and every Monday night 6-7pm in the lead up to Copenhagen so will be thinking of you as we stand in silence.

Best wishes to all of you!

  • Good luck guys - I think you are incredibly courageous.  May the world, and our political leaders, pay attention to this very important message.

By Bree Gardner, Melbourne on Sun, 08/11/2009

  • Good night!

(you will have to excuse my “xip-xap” english)

After all theese weeks getting impressed from this new global movement,

I understand that such actions are to awaken and draw the attention of world leaders who are still sleeping.

We all are one, every one has their own way, and politicians are also part of all, they will need our support,
Now more than ever they need our accompanying, our trust! we trust them and honestly must say so, but always from the respect and love of the brothers.
I think that we must please for them.

When I focus Copenhagen, I see a huge crowd invading that city, without big noises, no shoutings, just humans, lots of them sharing silence and giving light to those leaders that perhaps there will be so scared, because now they Know well what are we playing with, and this is big.

Come one Paul, Sara, Anna and all CJF friends, you’re bravehearts!!!!

I believe that during the next days you will have time to feel closer to your own bodies, thougths, and emotions.

Maybe our world leaders will not start a hunger strike during this days, but I’m sure that they also will learn something.

    And they WILL!

    Thank you and health.

    Sleep nice.

    Daniel.

  • Thank you for the privilege of being able to take action in support of the Fast. Your actions are inspiring and humbling.

Today we did a vigil to mark the beginning of the Fast and have organized a rolling Fast to last for the full period.

We are also looking at how many would be willing to Fast for the duration of the Copenhagen Conference, culminating in a large community event where people are asked to Fast for one day and then come together to break it in symbolic commitment to fighting for climate justice.

“Climate Justice Fast begins Nov 6th, how will you be helping?” http://greenfyre.wordpress.com/2009/11/04/climate-justice-fast-begins-nov-6th-how-will-you-be-helping/

    Thank you again

  • I shall be fasting in solidarity to support those on hunger strike.

I am grateful to paul & anna.

  • No practice fast, just straight in to this and encouraged by the sincere commitment of everyone involved.

I am doing this because leaders and friends need reminding and encouragement to take big steps.  Australia needs to wake from its sleep and our politicians must articulate a vision that accepts the futility of our dependence on mined energy.

There is no real plan for a sustainable and just economy, and we must begin to realise one at Copenhagen.

By Gregor Sanders, Victoria, Australia on Fri, 06/11/2009

  • Today I woke up at 5:30 am and helped cook a meal for our college’s weekly environmental lunch that I will not eat because I am fasting in solidarity today.  This made me realize that by denying nourishment, we are exercising in a powerful fashion the human capacity for free will.  I am hopeful that the will demonstrated by the long-term fasters will inspire world leaders to call upon their own free will to persevere past all obstacles in delivering justice at Copenhagen.

I know that you all inspire me.

  • A friend of mine and I, we started to fast today. At 1 p.m. MEST, we sat down on the main square in Münster and hung up our small poster: “Fasting - for a completely different climate.”
This expression encompasses more than just a climate change - we are convinced that we need a change in our lifestyles, in our relationships to other people, the earth and spirituality.
Yesterday, we published a press release and sent it to several newspapers and radiostations, tomorrow, we will have a first, long interview. Besides, we had some magnificent talks with people on the street. There are a lot of warm-hearted, passionate people out there and it’s beautiful, to get in contact with them!

What also really encourages is the world-wide network behind the action! So thanks so much to all the people, who share their energy!

By Matthias Wanner, Münster/Germany on Fri, 06/11/2009

  • On this first day of fasting, I’m pleased to be in the company of people around the world who get it on the seriousness of the challenge we are facing and who are willing to make sacrifices in a loving spirit to try to overcome it. I also think of the hundreds of millions of people around the world today who are not eating, or struggling to find something to eat, because of a very unjust world order. Their condition will become that of many hundreds of millions more in years to come unless the industrialized countries, especially the United States, take the kind of action this fast is calling for.
