  • hey dear fasters!

After our 8-day solidarity-fast in November, we again join the fast for one day. It’s highest time for some profound changes and I love your and our means of calling for that! In a couple of days we will come to Copenhagen too, until then we wish you strength and lots of support!

    Bon courage!

  • Great wishes of strength and joy to all the fasters and supporters of this powerful movement!  Just wanted to let you all know that Sara and I and probably at least two other friends will be fasting for the day tomorrow (the opening day of the conference) with our banner and some literature in the main square of downtown Portland.  We’ll keep spreading the word.

Thanks for all your amazing perseverance, dedication, and deep compassionate hearts!

  • CLIMATE CHANGE IS HAPPENING AND ALREADY HAPPENED.

    Evidence:

Recently I travelled to Europe to the place where I was born. As I travelled with my brother -in-law, he called my attention to a flock of birds feeding on a lawn and asked me if I knew what birds were they. He was also born near the same place as I. We knew ALL the birds names, in the region. But, he said: “I have recently seen those birds around which I never saw here before since we were young, do you know them?” He said. -Actually I don’t remember their name, but by the way they ‘sing’ and the spots on their feathers, they are the same that existe in Australia, and I believe they also existe in Africa.
-“Yeah” he said, “not only those birds are here now, but the Storks, which used to migrate here only in summer, spend now all year round here, and make their nests everywhere. Do you think this is due to ‘Climate change?” he asked.
-“No doubt” I said; “It is due to climate change.”

In the same area I also saw plants living in Autumn, which only used to live in Spring and Summer.

Carbon Indexes Must be Reduced by Legislation NOT carbon tax or credits, which is a scam for the rich to make money out of the air we breath.
What is next? The Sun tax.

You know who they are don’t you?

LEGISLATION AND STANDARDS, NOT carbon Credits for the stock exchange!!!!

In solidarity with the fasters I, and a few other folks in Northern California will fast on December 7th…it’s not
anywhere near what you have offered us and the planet but it is a form of a physical prayer to send out our love, support and commitment.

    With love,
    Carolyn

  • Hey guys, just a little message to say you are awe inspiring.  xxx

  • I want to join you in an active support, and have decided to do something somewhat unique, just because it has a kind of irony that might catch somebody’s attention.

I am going to do a HALF FAST for the HALF-ASSED commitment from our leaders.  The US Senate is the worst.  The US House of Representatives have already passed HALF-ASSED legislation and the Senate is not even HALF-ASSED.  Barack Obama is taking a HALF-ASSED emission reduction plan to COP15 which is equivalent to the House target of 3% reduction from 1990 levels.

HALF-ASSED measures deserve a HALF FAST commitment from me.  Sign me HalfFastDoug350

  • I tried to register the Climate Justice Fast Sonoma County event on the “Join” page, but I received an error message telling me that I need to be logged in. Where do I do that?

Here is the info about the event we are planning:

A number of my fellow activists and friends will be joining me in the Climate Justice Fast Sonoma County event on December 7, from 7 AM to 7 PM. The event is posted on Facebook at : http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#/event.php?eid=199192947937&ref=mf

We will donate the equivalent of what we would normally eat during that day to our local food bank. We will be simultaneously speaking out about the crisis of drought and famine worldwide due to climate change, while countering famine by feeding the hungry in our own county.

  • The Transition Movement starts from the belief that the two toughest challenges currently facing humankind are Climate Change and Peak Oil.

    CLIMATE CHANGE
is well documented in the media, although it is often not realised just how drastic climate effects may become. Whilst there is much discussion about reducing emissions to curtail Climate Change to an acceptable level, emissions are still growing and showing no sign of any reduction, let alone reduction of the required magnitude of 80-90% of levels measured in 1990.

    PEAK OIL
remains under the radar for most people. Peak Oil marks the ‘peak’ in world oil production followed by steady decline in production causing an economic decline of unprecedented proportions. Discoveries of new oil fields peaked in 1962, 47 years ago(!) and have been declining ever since. Nowadays, for every ONE barrel of newly discovered oil we are consuming more than FIVE barrels! It does not take a genius to work out the consequences.

Peak Oil is happening now. Since 2005, after a century of almost continual growth in world wide production, crude oil extraction is stagnating. Production data suggests that from about the end of 2009 world wide production will actually start declining - for the first time in history. From then on we can expect to have some 4% of crude oil LESS each and every year, consequently our primary source of energy will halve every 20 years or so!

    TRANSITION
The Transition Movement aims to alleviate many of the predicted effects of Climate Change, Peak Oil and other self-inflicted crises by helping local groups to build sustainable and resilient communities, able to supply much of their own local food and services, local energy, and rediscover the spirit of mutual support.
